Why we started
Trico Charitable Foundation was established in December of 2008 as an evolution of Wayne and Eleanor Chiu's philanthropic endeavours. Trico Charitable Foundation emerged due to the Chiu's vision to create an impactful legacy within the non-profit sector. This is a natural outgrowth of the Trico Group of Companies' long history of corporate social responsibility, which involves extensive financial and organizational commitment to numerous charitable and community causes.
Based on a passion for entrepreneurship and a keen awareness of the need for creative solutions to ensure sustainability in the non-profit sector, significant research and strategic planning ensued from an initial interest in advancing "social entrepreneurship". These discussions resulted in clarity around the need to build an organization that would serve as an incubator for social enterprise in Canada. As a result, Trico Charitable Foundation is focused on promoting the development of effective and successful models, concepts and principles related to the national advancement of social enterprise.
