Congratulations go out to the winners of the Canadian Final: Mount Royal University (MRU) and Simon Fraser University (SFU)! MRU’s Braden Edzerza for his work on food-security in fly-in communities in Northern BC and the SFU team for their project on reducing the volume of medical waste generated by Canadian Hospitals.

Today, the Trico Foundation team is very excited to share that Alexandra Daignault (Mount Royal University) and Ziad Paracha (University of Calgary) will be joining us from May to August as we are truly inspired by their passion for their ventures. We look forward to working with them as they develop their social enterprises, learning from them as they bring their ventures through our A.S.E.S.S. process, and collaborating with their respective mentors (Ray DePaul & Houston Peschl). As with many entrepreneurs, Paul Shumlich, founder and innovator of Deepwater Farms, radiates a certain something that makes success seem effortless. Behind his instinctive nature, however, comes a driven work ethic and a tremendous passion for making the world a better place.
Stepping into the University of Calgary’s Entrepreneurship 317 class, three Haskayne Business students could not have predicted a class project would transform into a successful social venture creating change. The project tasked students Miranda Mantey, Willis Tat, and Justin Wood to address a world issue. The result was the creation of One World Blankets a social enterprise that sought to employ local weavers in India to make blankets that would be sold in North America. Proceeds would not only provide employment in India, they would be utilized for vaccinations in India.
